Data Centers: Facts, Questions, and CoServ’s Commitment to Members
As discussions about data centers continue to grow across Texas and the nation, many Members may have questions about how these large facilities may affect electric service, reliability, and costs.
CoServ currently serves a variety of commercial and industrial facilities, including some that may be considered data centers. As we evaluate future requests for new large-load developments, including hyperscale data centers, any decision would be guided by our responsibility to provide safe, reliable, and affordable service for all Members.
Should CoServ receive requests for service from large-load customers, including data centers, in the future, our priority will be to protect our Members by ensuring that the costs associated with serving those facilities are appropriately funded by the data center and do not create an unfair burden on existing Members. Any potential project would undergo extensive engineering, operational, and financial review to ensure reliability, support responsible growth, and deliver value to the cooperative as a whole.
CoServ has signed the National Ratepayer Protection Pledge to reinforce our commitment. Every decision made by electric cooperatives ultimately comes back to affordability and reliability for the consumers at the end of the line. This pledge reflects that commitment.
No matter how North Texas grows, CoServ's focus will remain unchanged: protecting the affordability, reliability, and long-term value our Members depend on every day.
Data centers and energy demand are complex topics. The FAQs below provide additional context on how CoServ approaches growth while maintaining safe, reliable, and affordable service.
