What are the benefits of the program for Members?

Members who choose to participate receive backup power at a lower entry cost compared to similar solutions for their home during outages. The battery system is maintained by Base, and all installation, monitoring, and maintenance costs are included.

Participation is optional, and Members who do not enroll will see no change to their electric service.

How does the program benefit CoServ and the electric system overall?

The program supports demand response by allowing CoServ to discharge aggregated residential batteries during periods of peak demand and high wholesale pricing. By reducing load during these peak pricing events, the program helps lower system costs and reduces stress on the grid, benefiting all Members over time.

Because of this, CoServ is able to help Base offset the high costs of batteries and pass the savings to our Members. Instead of having to pay tens of thousands of dollars upfront for a generator and battery system, customers can lease a battery for a much lower cost.

Who installs and maintains the batteries?

The battery system is maintained by Base, and all installation, monitoring, and maintenance costs are included. CoServ does not own, service, or maintain the battery equipment.

Will I still be a CoServ Member?

Yes. CoServ will still be your electric provider.

Will my rate change?

Enrollment in the Base Battery Program places your account on the Reliability Plus rate for billing purposes. While this is a different rate classification, your cost per kilowatt-hour does not change, and CoServ remains your electric provider.

This billing structure ensures that battery operation does not affect what you pay for electricity and allows you to receive your Reliability Plus Program credit, which will begin with your first energy bill after your Base Battery installation.

What is the monthly membership fee and how is it billed?

The monthly membership fee is assessed by Base Power and covers all maintenance for the life of the battery. All fees, including installation costs, will be paid to Base and are not eligible as an on-bill charges from CoServ.

What is the monthly Reliability Plus Participation Credit for?

Each month, CoServ provides a Reliability Plus Participation Credit to account for the energy lost due to battery efficiency during charging and discharging as part of the program.

Your battery operates at approximately 90% round trip efficiency, meaning a small portion of energy is lost when power flows into and out of the battery. The $12.50 monthly credit per battery is designed to offset the cost of that efficiency loss, ensuring you are not financially impacted by the energy required to operate your battery for program purposes.

If there is a power outage, how will I know if my battery is working?

Because a Base Power battery is not built like a traditional backup generator, there is no fuel, fumes, or noise. It integrates seamlessly into your home. When there is an outage, you should experience no downtime as the battery will automatically kick in. Keeping your life moving without interruptions.

In addition, Base also offers the Base App that allows participants to see if they are operating on battery power.
