Data Centers: Facts, Questions, and CoServ’s Commitment to Members

As discussions about data centers continue to grow across Texas and the nation, many utility customers have questions about how these large facilities may affect electric service, reliability, and costs. While CoServ does not currently serve any data centers, we believe it's important to be transparent about how we would evaluate future requests and to reiterate that any decision would be guided by our responsibility to provide safe, reliable, and affordable service to our Members.

Should CoServ receive requests for service from large-load customers, including data centers, in the future, our priority will be to protect our Members by ensuring that the costs associated with serving those facilities are appropriately funded by the data center and do not create an unfair burden on existing Members. Any potential project would undergo extensive engineering, operational, and financial review to ensure reliability, support responsible growth, and deliver value to the cooperative as a whole.

CoServ has signed the National Ratepayer Protection Pledge to reinforce our commitment. Every decision made by electric cooperatives ultimately comes back to affordability and reliability for the consumers at the end of the line. This pledge reflects that commitment.
